Women's History Month 2019 Profile: Julie Ventura

Julie Ventura, Education Manager at ORLY International

How would your peers describe your personality?

They would say I am creative, dependable, and adventurous.

When did you consider yourself a success? How did this make you feel?

The moment I felt like I belonged in the nail world was when I had the honor to work with an elite group of nail artists from all over the world on some of NYFW's biggest shows. It confirmed I was on the right path and there's nothing more satisfying than that!

What is the biggest challenge you have come across in your career and how did you handle this?

The biggest challenge in my career has been the lack of support. In high school, I knew college was not for me, and I felt I could further my career in nails without it. Many friends and teachers told me I would amount to nothing and that I was throwing my life away! No one even thought to ask if I had a plan, which I did. It was tough, but thankfully with the support of my family, I stayed on my own path and couldn't be happier.

What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?

It's not hard for me to stay motivated when it comes to nails. Every day, I see how undervalued nail professionals are, and that's plenty motivation for me to continue working towards elevating the industry.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of the students I've taught over the years. Watching their progress and determination always inspires me and reminds me I'm right where I should be.

What inspired you when you were younger?

My brother inspired me when I was younger. He's an amazing artist and I wanted to follow in his footsteps without being overshadowed. He's the reason I chose the nail industry!

What nail color makes you feel most confident?

ORLY Liquid Vinyl

What is a piece of advice you would give to young women?

Don't let anyone tell you what your future should be. Stand by your own decisions and trust yourself. Only you know what's best for you.
