How did you know you had the right idea? How much did this idea change from initial concept to launching your brand?

I don't think there is a "right" idea. There are moments when you have an idea or thought that feels very electric and exciting and you know you HAVE to make it happen. Those are the things that set you onto a path and you have to trust those. My brand's identity and output changes as I change and evolve.

How do you handle adversity and doubt? What about self-doubt? 

I cry and collapse and then get up again. This cycle happens over and over and you keep rising, over and over.

What has been your biggest set-back or road block and how did you handle that situation?

Self doubt and fear. I'm still learning but talking to people and seeing how NORMAL these feelings are, especially when you own a business, is healing.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

A fashion designer, living in NYC who wore red lipstick and had long red fingernails.

What advice would you give your teenage self? 

I would say "Susan, please please don't worry so much about what will be. it will all be ok and you will always have another great idea."

What was your dream job before building your brand? 

To be a fashion designer. 

What inspired you when you were younger? What inspires or motivates you now?

Vogue magazine transported and inspired me. Movies, books and tv shows too. Vogue is less inspiring now but movies and tv still remain a huge influence.

What piece of advice would you give to young women today? 

Nothing will destroy you.
